City of Statesville public hearing on data centers on August 10

The City of Statesville will be holding a public hearing on data centers on Aug. 10 at the Statesville City Hall at 6:00 p.m. According to the city’s website, “The Statesville City Council is considering a proposed 150-day moratorium on new data center applications. The temporary pause would allow the City to review its existing development regulations, receive community input, and determine whether updates are needed.”

City manager Ron Smith released a message this morning about why the City of Statesville is considering a proposed data center moratorium. If the proposed moratorium is approved, this will allow for the city to give city staff the opportunity to review Statesville’s Unified Development Code (UDC) in order to consider the future data center proposal review process. 

However, within the statement, it is important to note that the Compass Data Center on Stamey Farm Road is exempt from the upcoming proposed moratorium.
