Live Music: Lua Flora is coming to Statesville

Lua Flora is coming to Statesville on Aug. 20 performing at the Iredell Arts Council. Based in Asheville, NC, Lua Flora shares their unique indie folk sounds with Statesville. 

Evan Button, songwriter for Lua Flora, has been working on the project for six years. Originally from Virginia Beach, Button attended Appalachian State University and has been living in Asheville for six years. 

“I’ve been doing music for almost 20 years,” said Button. Button shared that he has been playing music and gigs at the age of 11. “Lua Flora started right out of college. It started as an acoustic project and it will be a little more of a reggae bluegrass infusion.” 

Over the first year of Lua Flora, Button had been working on songwriting that was a reflection of his life and experiences. “Most of it comes from a pre-processing phase,” shared Button. “I write about things because I understand what is fully going on. There is the phase of understanding the emotional and navigating it before it is at the forefront of my mind.”

When it comes to the music production for Lua Flora, Button works closely with producer Karl Roth to discuss what the band is looking for in music and the direction they want to head in the future. Button adds that with the advancements of technology, it is easy for the band to work at home and with local studios in Asheville to produce music. 

Lua Flora released a new album “Watauga Starlight” on July 31. The album is made up of five new songs with different studio versions of each song. “It kind of is a collection of wonderment,” said Button. “We did corresponding videos of the live version of the songs as well.”

Button shares how the band is working towards making meaningful connections with fans, shifting to making more singles and content for them to enjoy. “After the album comes out, we have more songs in the bank. We are just going to do singles every monolith for the future until we decide not to do that anymore. The goal is to be consistent.”
