With the comeback of physical media and collecting music from listeners' favorite bands, finding places to collect vinyl and CD’s can be difficult to come by, especially when wanting to support small businesses. Rock Star Records and CDs, located at 127-A N Main St, Mooresville, NC, is home to vinyl records, CD’s, cassettes and more.

David Splendorio and his wife, Deborah, opened Rock Star Records and CDs with their passion and love for music. With the two having a personal collection stored in the basement of their house, it was time for the couple to open a record store in downtown Mooresville.

Splendorio has been a musician his whole life, from playing in bands to collecting music, and it was a no brainer to open a music store within his future. The original shop location was a former photography studio that Splendorio owned but turned it into a music store after the business was not gaining as much traction.

Rock Star Records and CDs hold stock of everything from new and used vinyl and CDs. Splendorio carries a range of music from 70s to 90s rock, pop, metal and newer genres such as rap and hip-hop. The store obtains new albums every week that can be found in the new arrivals bin within the shop.

Used vinyl gets an in depth cleaning with an ultrasonic cleaner to enhance the sound of the vinyl—ridding of years of dust and dirt that is lodged into the grooves of the records. While the ultrasonic cleaner does not remove scratches, it still brings a fresh, updated sound to the record for future listeners.

Splendorio speaks about the love and passion he has for music, especially to see younger faces in his shop. He shares how younger customers will inform him of new bands and musicians who are popular while older customers reminisce about concerts and memories related to music. “We hope to keep doing what we are doing and see our regulars all the time,” said Splendorio.
