As a reader and advocate for promoting local authors, literature and local arts, Written Here is a new section within Lake Norman Record to do said platforming. I welcome you to browse around, read and subscribe to our monthly newsletter that is distributed every first Monday of the month.
With the rise of Indie authors, sharing their works and stories is what helps drive the book community within Iredell County and North Carolina. Their books could be your potential next read and we want to share it with you. It can feel like a daunting task to find local authors but got you covered here at Lake Norman Record.
In addition to our newsletter, you can find an array of content on Written Here from reviews, exclusive interviews, author and creator spotlights, including future podcasting. We want to engage you in the bookish world to find new reads and support local authors.
I believe that shedding light and supporting local arts is what builds and connects our community beyond local events and news. Iredell County is home to many local authors who are sharing their work, publishing and creating a name for themselves. In addition to authors, local book stores and events are promoting reading, supporting local authors and allowing space on their shelves for readers to purchase their books. It’s more than just loving to read, it is support and sharing the work within our community.
Why should you support local and indie authors?
Supporting indie authors is like supporting a small business–your funding and support goes a long way. Indie and small authors spend a lot of time and resources in order to master their craft, publish and market themselves into the massive book sale world.
From the Watershed Journal Literary Group, they list multiple reasons for the importance of supporting indie authors, especially in a fast-paced, digital world of best-selling authors. Supporting, discovering and sharing local authors encourages a literary community, inspires future writers and strengthens your local economy.
How can I support local and indie authors?
Purchase books directly from the authors, local books stores or regional publishers.
Attend local book events, signings and readings.
Share your favorite book store or author with friends, family and online!
Leave reviews to help spread the word (either on their website, Amazon, GoodReads, or NetGalley).
Follow and engage with them on social media.
